On June 5, KST, News1 reported that the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 20 had fined the woman, identified by the surname Kim, ₩3.00 million KRW (about $2,210 USD).

Kim was indicted for leaving sexually inappropriate and defamatory comments about IU on a portal site in February 2024. She had targeted the singer, suggesting that she had “bribed the judge,” among other provocative things.

In court, Kim claimed that her comment was not directed at any specific person and didn’t harm IU’s public image. However, Judge Lim Jeong Bin rejected her defense, stating that Kim’s comments “clearly targeted the victim” and constituted defamation.

The most shocking part about Kim’s indictment was that the court revealed she had a history of similar behavior. It turns out, she was previously fined ₩3.00 million KRW (about $2,210 USD) in December 2024 for posting malicious comments about IU’s appearance and vocal skills. During the court proceedings for that case, she had pleaded for leniency, claiming that she had a mental illness that affected her ability to express herself well.

The court also pointed out that the more recent offense occurred before the previous case was filed. Though Kim has not been subjected to any criminal punishments beyond fines, the court underlined that she showed no remorse, nor did she apologize to IU.

Despite the strong legal action taken by IU’s agency, the singer continues to face cyberbullying and malicious comments online. Read more about it here:
