Popular Rookie Idol Goes Viral For Using A Controversial Phrase

Recently, a popular rookie idol group member went viral online for a message he sent through the fan messaging app.
On June 2, a Nate online community board garnered over 120,000 views regarding a particular word used by NCT WISH’s Jaehee.

Now that I’ve eaten everything, I’m craving kimchi.
— Jaehee
While his message might seem normal, the term “마렵다”, which means to crave or desperately need something, started being used negatively on DC Gallery.
DC Gallery is a forum that is mostly male-dominated and, most recently, linked to misogynistic controversy over the last few years.
Most netizens were disappointed in his choice or words.

- “Such shallow word choice…”
- “Can’t believe someone like this is an idol…I feel bad for the female idols.”
- “After seeing the comments defending him, I feel like the rights of Korean women are really at rock bottom.”
- “Regardless of gender, I have prejudice against those who use that phrase.”
However, others didn’t understand why this was causing so much criticism.
