Legendary Idol Denounces BIGBANG As His Rivals

Back in the early 2000s, BIG BANG and TVXQ were everywhere. They were seen as the top groups of their era.

Although they have been closely associated with each other for a long time, former TVXQ’s Jaejoong recently opened up about his past relationship — or lack thereof, with YG Entertainment artists in a new video posted to his YouTube channel, Jaefriend. The episode featured WINNER’s Kang Seungyoon and Kim Jinwoo as special guests.
During the conversation, the trio reminisced about WINNER’s early days. When Kim Jaejoong inquired about their debut, Kang Seungyoon responded, that they debuted in 2014. Surprisingly, the two have never met!
Kim Jaejoong then candidly shared that he never really had any connection with YG Entertainment artists in the first place. When Kim Jinwoo asked if that included BIGBANG, Jaejoong claimed that he never once saw them as rivals. In fact, he named a different group for that category!
“Even with BIGBANG, things were a bit ambiguous. I never considered them rivals. They were just talented friends doing well on a different path. Our eternal rivals were SS501. Regardless of who was doing better, they were always our rivals.”
SS501 was closer in image and sound to TVXQ than BIG BANG. BIG BANG took a more hiphop approach while the other two focused on melodic pop-synth sounds.
