The Late Kim Sae Ron Confirmed To Have Suffered From Exorbitant Amount Of Debt Before Her Death

It has been confirmed that the late Kim Sae Ron faced continuous financial difficulties for several years before her death, with some directly related to her family’s financial situation.
It was revealed that she had taken on some of her family’s debt and received various financial support from the entertainment industry and acquaintances to make ends meet.
Court records from 2023 showed that Kim Sae Ron was registered as one of the creditors in her father’s personal bankruptcy case. Officials revealed that the debt amounted to over ₩200 million KRW (about $147,000 USD).
Her father filed for bankruptcy in December 2020, leaving behind a large debt owed to over 20 creditors due to business failure. At this time, Kim Sae Ron was 20 years old.
Close acquaintances also revealed that the family restaurant in which Kim Sae Ron had invested money had failed. Although the restaurant was opened in 2021 under the name of an acquaintance with Kim Sae Ron, helping financially and with industry connections, it eventually closed in 2024.
The owner of the restaurant building stated that the restaurant closed before the contract expiration date and lost the entire deposit due to unpaid monthly rent and management fees.
In this situation, Kim Sae Ron’s financial situation became worse after her DUI incident in 2022. During her trial, her lawyer stated, “She is the head of the household in her family. Not only her, but her family is also struggling financially.”
According to SBS Entertainment News, in addition to the three acquaintances in the entertainment industry, she also owed debt to singers, actors, athletes, and her former agencies. With all these circumstances combined, it was confirmed that she had debts of at least ₩1.20 billion KRW (about $882,000 USD) up until her death.
Meanwhile, actor Kim Soo Hyun claimed that he dated Kim Sae Ron after she became an adult, denying the allegations.
