Woman Details Her “Romance” With GOT7’s Jackson Wang On “Catfish” Program, Leaving Viewers Heartbroken

This is not the first time this has happened.

The internet makes connecting with people easier than ever, but there are also many dangers online. One source of trouble is scammers, who have become increasingly creative in their methods of reaching potential victims.

A method that has become very popular is the act of catfishing, or pretending to be someone else while speaking with a person online.

Recently, a program that helps people determine whether they are talking to a catfish featured someone who thought she was talking to GOT7‘s Jackson Wang.

The YouTube channel Catfished recently featured a woman named Fawna, who says she switched to online dating after having trouble finding a partner. Fawna, who has congestive heart failure and is clinically disabled, says that after discovering Jackson on TikTok, she was approached online by what she believed to be him.

Fawna says that she talked to “Jackson” every day, and even spoke with him on the phone, though she couldn’t video call him.

Her feelings for “Jackson” grew so strong that she even bought them engagement rings, but it was when he had to come to plan their wedding that the scam began. After sending money for various “necessities” like a plane ticket and a passport renewal, “Jackson” claimed to be getting blackmailed.

Fawna says she sent around $4000 USD to cover each request, and “Jackson” asked for her social security number, ID and more to allegedly name her as a beneficiary.

The scams eventually led Fawna to be unable to make rent, and to reach out for assistance from the program, who sent out fake tracking links to the celebrities to get to the bottom of everything.

The account pretending to be Jackson, as well as two other “celebrities,” were found to be located in Nepal, and Laos, Nigeria.

Fawna was, of course, distraught over the information shared, and admitted that she felt nice while talking to the accounts because no one else spoke to her that way. The show’s hosts gave Fawna a pep talk and offered to pay for her to receive therapy to help her work through the issues that may have made her more susceptible to being scammed, including the loneliness she feels following the passing of her mother.

Many commenters expressed sympathy for Fawna, rather than berate her for falling for an “obvious” scam. Some even commented that Jackson would hate to hear about this happening even though it is not his fault and beyond his control.

Hopefully, Fawna does not fall for anymore scams and is able to heal after everything she has gone through.
